Live music TONIGHT with Liam Purcell & Cane Mill Road @canemillroad Music starts at 7:30. “Cane Mill Road, based less than six miles from Deep Gap, North Carolina, the home of Doc Watson, draws its inspiration from the late singer/guitarist whose musical imagination gathered inspiration from the deepest Appalachian roots while courageously finding connections to almost all elements of American music...the band has quickly ignited a spark that has led to a recording contract with Patuxent Music and early recognition from the International Bluegrass Music Association.” — No Depression ...

The truth is, as a business we haven’t celebrated or even recognized Juneteenth in any of our past 6 years of business. But we’re now listening, learning, and working to become better accomplices in the fight against systemic injustice, police brutality and institutional and overt racism. Today, one dollar from every pint sold will benefit @blackinboone and @watauganaacp ...

Gawd we’re so thankful for the FarmSHARE (Farms Serving Hospitality and Restaurant Employees) program, the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association @carolinafarms and the High Country Food Hub @highcountryfoodhub // This 8-week food assistance program has provided many of our staff with a free box full of fresh and local sustainable produce, meats and cheeses during a time of increased financial uncertainty during COVID-19. Many local farmers have been significantly impacted by the pandemic, and the FarmSHARE program has helped generate revenue for farmers who have seen a decline in sales to restaurants during this time. A big shout out to our local farming community participating in this program (and sorry if we forgot someone!!)

BLACK LIVES MATTER. This is not a statement of exclusivity claiming other lives do not. It’s a call for us all to be still and listen to the voices of people of color in our workplaces, in our communities and around the country. Along with so many others in our community, we refuse to be silent about or complicit with institutional and overt forms of racism, police brutality or the systemic injustices built into our criminal justice system. We love and value our local law enforcement officers and first responders. But that’s not what this is about.

Look, we brew beer and make food. We do this because like other small and independent businesses in Boone and around the country, we believe in the power of our businesses to bring people together. We’re devastated to see so many communities around the country being torn apart right now, and are vowing now to do more as a small business to actively work against racism in our community. We’ll start by first being better listeners of people of color and doing whatever we can to value and support these voices. In the coming days and weeks we’ll begin working with individuals, members of the faith community and other businesses to more actively confront racism in all its forms. Enough is enough.
